Breakfast Experiment Pt. 2
Last week I did a little experiment. I ate a different breakfast everyday for seven days and took note of how I felt directly after eating and then two hours later. Below is a breakdown of what I ate and my notes on how I felt after.
Day 1: granola and coconut yogurt bowl with blackberries and almond milk
Directly after: satisfied, light, energized
Two hours after: ready for a snack
Day 2: avocado toast with sea salt and lemon juice on sourdough
Directly after: satisfied, full, energized
Two hours after: energy level still high
Day 3: cocoa beet smoothie
Directly after: instant energy boost, most likely related to the caffeine in the cacao
Two hours after: definitely ready for a snack
Day 4: fresh fruit topped with cocoa nibs and bee pollen
Directly after: still hungry, kick started the metabolism
Two hours after: had to have a snack before the two hours were up
Day 5: cinnamon toast
Directly after: not super energized
Two hours after: a little sleepy, craving a matcha
Day 6: egg casserole
Directly after: satisfied, full, energized
Two hours after: still full and energized
Day 7: Aloha Goddess green juice from Mother’s
Directly after: vibrant, instant energy boost
Two hours after: had to have a snack before the two hours were up
As a new mom I have found myself skipping breakfast more often than not. This experiment really helped open my eyes to some simple energy giving foods that I can start incorporating into my week. It also showed me that some of my go to’s, as delicious as they are, aren’t necessarily serving me and my energy levels. I will be moving cinnamon toast and fresh fruit into the snack lane. I also noticed that my body seems to thrive when I have a smoothie or juice first thing in the morning. While they don’t provide the most sustainable energy they are definitely very life giving. Not only do I feel an instant energy boost but I also feel an instant glow within. Because of this, I plan on incorporating more green juices and smoothies into my weekly breakfast menu. With all of this said, the breakfast experiment should be done yourself so that you can find out what foods best serve you and your needs. I highly recommend doing one; you can go off my menu or create your own. Let me know if you would like any of the recipes I used, I’m happy to share!
